Marcelo Claure is the founder, chairman, president and CEO of Brightstar Corp., a global leader in customized distribution and supply chain solutions in the wireless industry with $4.8 billion in gross revenues. Under Marcelo’s direction, Brightstar has experienced significant growth, creating an organization in over 45 countries on six continents in only 12 years. Marcelo is the recipient of numerous regional, national and international awards for his leadership and business acumen. He was named Entrepreneur of the Year by both USA Today/Ernst & Young and Hispanic Business Magazine, CEO of the Year by LISTA and was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2007. He was also recently named to the list of the 50 most powerful businessmen by PODER. Brightstar was recognized as the largest Hispanic-owned business in the United States for the past several years, the number one company in terms of revenue growth by Inc. Magazine and in the Top 10 Businesses of the Past 10 Years by BNamericas Magazine. Recently, Forbes Magazine featured Brightstar as #108 on its list of largest private companies in the United States. Prior to launching Brightstar, Marcelo was active in the expansion of the U.S. telecommunications market through a number of entrepreneurial endeavors. He held an executive position at Unplugged Communications, a company engaged in the distribution and activation of wireless products. He also served as president of Small World Communications, and was president of Cellular Solutions, a successful wireless retailer in the northeast United States.
Marcelo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and finance from Bentley College in Massachusetts and received an honorary doctorate degree of commercial science from Bentley College. Recently, he was the recipient of an honorary doctorate degree from the Universidad Tecnica Privada de Santa Cruz (UTEPSA).
Marcelo is well known as a public speaker, and has been featured at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos and other regional WEF events, has spoken as the keynote speaker at the National Minority Business Enterprise Annual Conference, and has addressed numerous universities, in addition to many other speaking engagements.
